Background

The global COVID-19 pandemic seemed to be the time for people in the UK to take up or rediscover cycling.

Challenge

Arguably the UKs biggest bike retailer, Halfords, wanted to improve their click-and-collect shopping experience for bikes.

Solution

A modal that allows customers to view all bikes that are available to click-and-collect from local stores of their choice on a product listings page.

Design Process

Identifying pain points

Previously, stock availability was displayed to users as a final ‘step’ on the PDP.

If the bike was not available at 1 of a users 5 nearest stores, the bike could not be purchased via click-and-collect.

Pain points

  • Displaying stock availability so late on in the journey.
  • Having no where to go if no stock available at nearest 5 stores.

Opportunities

  • Display stock availability earlier in the journey.
  • Give users the option to travel further than their nearest 5 stores.

By asking for a users postcode on PLP, users can view all bikes available for click-and-collect near them.

User Testing

To gain insight into whether users would prefer to view bikes in specific stores, or within a mile radius, I created two basic UX prototypes.

Firstly I roughly sketched the designs.
